I am starting a new series for our newsletter to include a leadership topic along with passing along news in the nursing community. I wanted to focus on the positive in nursing and leadership. Subscribe to receive notification when our newsletter comes out. We publish twice a month.
We have come to the beginning of a new year. 2023 is in our rearview mirror. It is a time of reflection with anticipation toward the future. I don’t know about you, but I am approaching 2024 with a sense of optimism. I know that great things are ahead of us. How do I know that? I know because of two reasons: experience and intention. I am not so naive as to not understand that 2024 will bring challenges. The past three years since the pandemic had started, personal losses, inflation, wage stagnation, have shaken our complacency and as Jesus said, “In this world, you will have troubles.” Yes, those troubles have and will continue to happen in the future. Hope, freedom, choice, and new opportunities will also endure. Human nature is for us to strive harder during adversity and to find a way to continue on with life’s journey. We keep going because we must. We find creative ways to make innovations when faced with problems. It is my intention to face each day with a sense of hope and gratitude for the new opportunities that are available. It is how we approach our challenges which will determine whether we fold or overcome them. It is the realization that we can begin again.
There is a grace and power with the understanding that new beginnings can be empowering. As I think about the challenges of last year, I am reminded of the victories as well. I launched a podcast, The Nurse Shark Academy Show, and as of this post, I am celebrating our one-year anniversary. I have kept the newsletter and blog going, even when I had to write my posts in a hospital room with a loved one. I launched our CNA training school, expanded our CPR and TB training offerings. I designed two new websites and finished the first draft of my new book. I published my first e-book. These are all things I have done throughout the year, all while crying with my family and friends as we have buried loved ones, helped each other through illnesses, and faced an uncertain economic future. I did not do this alone. My husband has been my biggest champion and he is an integral part of our business. As a society, we have been through a lot. We are overcomers. It is with this experience that I am confident that next year, we will continue on. I look to the future with optimism and hope that it will be the best year yet. We move from glory to glory in the kingdom. Those of you who know, know. What are my intentions for next year?
I intend to start the year off big. As I am writing this, I have just completed the Comeback Champion Summit. I am participating in the 31-day Wisdom Challenge through the book of Proverbs. I am activating my “Be-attitudes.” What are “Be-Attitudes?” It is the mindset that we must hold to achieve to be an overcome and stand through the storm. I will be sharing my Be-Attitudes in the series of this newsletter. Keep reading and subscribe so that you do not miss a post. Be well in 2024. Remember you are powerful.

A 67-year-old man who has schizophrenia has been missing since the facility closed. He walked away from the facility and has not been heard from since. It is always devastating when someone loses their home and the sudden closure of this facility is being scrutinized in the media. Please help the police find Mr. Frederick Carruthers.
